Strawberry Pickin'

While in Lexington for Spring Break, the wonderful Gilbert strawberries were ripe for picking! We were worried, as there was a freeze warning that week, but the strawberries were saved! We took Addie Kate out there first thing Friday morning, and it was busy! It was a little cool and windy, but we had fun regardless. And, we filled our basket in no time at all! Surprisingly, Addie didn't enjoy eating them fresh off the plant like I do, but she did try a few.

Here Mimi is showing her what to do:

And me trying to help her pick a good one:

So proud of her pickings:

Getting a taste of one fresh from the dirt! (I have to wonder how many kids in this country never get to experience fruit and vegetables fresh from a garden, and who have never experienced picking their own vegetables and fruits? It's sad to think about that.)

Now she's getting the hang of it:
And, we get bored! She starts to run up and down the fields!

Trying to get a picture with my girl, near about impossible!
And may I add that she has a special strawberry-picking dress, but it was too long. I am working on getting that fixed by the time the strawberries are ripe up here!
