Ready or not, the first day of school came for my two sweeties. We had such a fun summer. We had some down time, some home time, some travel time, some visiting time, lots of water time, and lots of friend time. It was great. But, summer wouldn't be as special if we had it year round. It just gives us something to look forward during the school year!
The smallest of the small ones started the day I started back. That didn't set too well with him, but it was a good transition only having one child to get back in routine first. Plus, Addie Kate still had to get up with us and get going in the mornings, she just got to chill afterwards.
Drew started back at Pisgah where we have been very happy. We are hopeful for a happy, healthy, full-of-learning 3K year as well. He has Ms. Buralla and will happily still have Mrs. Mary for Spanish! We just love her! Drew has some friends from last year in his class, plus his cousin Layla, and a few new friends. We had a few tears the first few days, but after that we have been good! It's such a nice change from him crying every. single. morning. until Christmas last year. I think God knew mama's heart couldn't take that this year.
Sweet little bed-headed, tired eyes, angel boy of mine.
Mom, thankfully, made his cute shirt at the last minute, when I realized he didn't have anything for the first day of school. And we can't have that! I know his days with cute appliquéd shirts are numbered!
A week later, my girl started first grade. How we got here must have been on a time machine or something. Because it surely does not feel like we should be here yet. I am still ever thankful that she is here with me. She has Senorita Hood first and Miss Davis second. I know it will be a great year.
This is her first year not wearing a handmade dress or something from Mom and me. I loved this little Matilda Jane dress though, and I thought starting first grade was a good time to wear it. Although I was a bit sad....
Typical here.... AK telling Drew what to do, and Drew hamming it up.
I pray with the children every day on the way to school. I want them to be happy and healthy, to be good listeners, learners, and leaders. I want them to be a friend to all. I want God to be with them, for him to protect them, keep the devil away from them, and keep them healthy and safe. I pray for their teachers too. And I pray for God to bring us all back home safely together at night. Leaving my children, for any time period, continues to be the hardest thing in the world for me. I guess, after seven years, it isn't going to change.
