When I went to pick her up on Friday (two Fridays before Easter), I asked her babysitter how she did. She said that she immediately picked up the first egg that she saw, but then just enjoyed that one egg so much, that she didn't really care about finding others! (This changed with her other Easter Egg Hunts.) Her babysitter would point out another egg to her, and Addie would just hold up her one first, precious egg! Regardless, everyone ended up with the same amount of eggs, and all the eggs were filled with treats for them to enjoy later! (They didn't let them have them there, because not all of the treats were age-appropriate. For example, Addie can't have Skittles yet. The treats Addie supplied were Welch's Fruit Snacks. I just can't get myself into overloading her with sweets yet, plus, she doesn't really care for them (shock, I know)! Although truth be known, those fruit snacks are probably just as bad for you, if not worse! I hate all that artificial stuff and the marketing ploys that go along with them!) She also got some eggs with Play-Doh (Play-Doh by brand is spelled that way, before I get any people questioning my intelligence.) in them - of which I quickly confiscated!
I sent Addie with a basket, not knowing that the milk carton we had supplied earlier that week was going to be her basket - so sweet! I did not send her with her Easter basket, as it is a sweetgrass basket from Charleston that my mom got her last year for her first Easter. My girl just had to have a sweetgrass basket for her Easter basket, and I LOVE it! She will always be able to use it, on into adulthood, and know that that was her Easter basket from when she was a tiny baby! Thanks Mimi! I know one day Addie will treasure this!
Also, let me note here, since most of you know that dressing my girl is probably my favorite thing to do these days! I knew she'd be having the egg hunt, and knew pictures would be taken. So, I, of course, set out a precious little dress for her to wear. Now, I buy and make (ok, my mom makes!) her clothes nice and fancy and I fully expect them to be worn all the time, and do not care if they get dirty, be they smocked, custom-made, boutique-bought, whatever. There has never (knock on wood) been a stain that my mom or I can't get out, especially out of good quality fabric. But, at the babysitter's house, this child gets so stinking dirty, that I just can't do it. Just cannot do it. She officially is a child that has to have playclothes. Has to. No question about it. How she gets so dirty, I do not know. I mean, she can get so dirty that I am embarassed to take her to Walmart after I pick her up - Walmart! Where people go in slippers and hair-rollers! I joke with Tommy that if we ever have a boy, he'll be clean, and timid, and not a daredevil, and listen and follow directions beautifully - everything I expect a little girl to do, and that mine doesn't!
So, I digress... I set out a cute little dress for her to wear. Tommy brings it into me while I'm getting ready that morning. Our conversation ensues as so:
T- Erica, is this what you want her to wear today?
E - Yes!
T- She's having an egg hunt.
E- Yes, I know. I want her to look cute.
T - Erica, she needs to wear pants. She's going to be on the ground hunting for those eggs!
E - (my, I'm not a conversation-having morning person part of me kicks in) OK, fine, just put her in something cute. But she is wearing a dress to the one at the church this weekend!
I just had to laugh out loud about this once I woke up later that morning. I thought, "That baby isn't going to be all over the place hunting for eggs!" Sure enough, not yet this year, she didn't. But, I'm sure in years to come, her daddy's competitive-ness will take over and she will be on the prowl looking for eggs!
Below are pictures of our girl enjoying her first Easter Egg Hunt! I think she really had a good time!

Addie and her friends. Addie does not stay with all of these kids. She stays with the two little boys to the left of her, and the little girl in the pink dress, on the far left of all the kids.
