Tommy's been working in DC a lot lately, at the Quantico Marine Base. One of my best friends lives in DC and just had a baby boy too! He, Drew's cousin Benjamin, and Drew were all due on the same day! Drew came first, two weeks early, then Benjamin one week early, then Baby Pete on time! Three sweet little boys, how special!
Since Tommy was working up there, I decided we needed to make a trip to see Dena. I thought Addie would enjoy parts of DC. My mom loves it and so do I, so why not? And all in all, it was a great trip! We didn't get to see as much of Dena, Peter, and Baby Pete as we would have liked, but we'll do it again soon. Addie loved seeing everything in DC. She didn't understand any historical significance, but she was amazed at the monuments and museums. Drew slept through it all. And other than the heat, the adults had a great time!
We drove up on Friday night and stopped six hours in for the night. We got up the next morning and drove into DC. We checked into the hotel, got lunch, and went straight to sightseeing. Tommy and I have been to DC many times, and there wasn't anything "new" for us to see. My mom, however, hadn't been in a while and wanted to see the WWII memorial, which is beautiful. We found a parking place right by the mall, and first thing I saw was this:
Yep, there is Tiger loyalty everywhere! What this picture isn't showing is a Carolina tent right near it. After talking to them, they told us that the two alumni groups get together a few times a year for softball games, etc. Still though, how cool! And what are the chances? I swear, Tommy and I have met Clemson people everywhere we have been! (My dad's coworker even once met not only a Clemson student, but a friend of mine at Clemson, on top of the Eiffel Tower once! Who would have thought?)
Of course we had to get a picture with them. AK wouldn't take a picture #1 - without the dandelion, and #2 - by herself with the group. Oh well!

Thank goodness we thought of sunscreen -it was hot, sunny, and miserable!
A far off picture of the White House. You can't get too much closer to it. Since it was so hot and since all of us, except the kids, have been here when you could drive in front of it, and have even been inside, we didn't worry with it.

Everyone had their feet cooling in the pool. And there were signs everywhere asking you not to do that. I'm hoping that meant they didn't want you wading around in it, because we all did it too.

Addie showing the quarter that caused controversy. Apparently Tommy hadn't seen the sign asking you not to throw coins in the fountain. There were coins all in it and Addie asked Tommy if he had any money (or "minny" as she calls it.). So he gave it to her and she tossed it in. A lady saw her and informed him of the sign and he got so mad! Oh well. I hate she threw it in, but again, there was tons in there, and only one small sign.

We then got back in the car and headed towards the Jefferson Memorial. We wanted to go to all of them, but we only made it to that one. Then, as we got there, we parked where it told us to and then had to walk forever to get to it. I had decided to put Drew in the Bjorn to give his little back a break, so instead mine was hurting by the time we got there! Tommy immediately had to go back and get the car to come pick us up, because it had taken us so long to walk there that we were close to time to meet Dena for dinner! Small mistake, but at least we got to see it and show Addie one of the beautiful memorials.

We ran by the hotel and I quickly changed clothes. I didn't change the kids and probably should have, they were not dressed well enough for where we went to dinner. We ate at Georgia Browns and it was yummy! Some celebrity was in there when we were, but none of us recognized him. He just caused a lot of roucus and was signing autographs.

We tried to compare the two, since they are two weeks apart. Drew was alot more relaxed and laid out, Baby Pete was still in that newborn ball.

By the time day one was over we were flat out exhausted. Addie Kate was high on little sleep and was wild. We all crashed once we finally got to the hotel!
