16 Months Old...

I realize that I just made a post about all of Addie Kate's newest tricks, accomplishemts, and amusements, but she has done so much more in just the past two weeks, that it is time to post another!

These pictures were taken on one of those warm spring-like weather Sundays after church. She is wearing my old dress that my mom made me (with a few 2009 updates!) that I just LOVE! That is definitely her color! I was upstairs with her in her room, getting ready to change her and take the obligatory pictures for my mother, when she started yelling for her Daddy!

She has long been playing with her baby. It is by far one of her favorite things to do, and "baby" is one of her favorite words. (If anyone is anywhere around that is about 3 ft. or smaller, she yells out, "baby" at the top of her lungs, repeatedly!) The other night we were playing after dinner, and her sippy cup was with her (we remind her constantly to drink her milk after dinner, to try to get a full serving in her!). I looked over and she was giving it to her baby! So cute that she's already making that association. She's always been feeding her baby her 'ba-tul," (those disappearing liquid bottles - my mom gave her two for Christmas), but this was the first time she gave her a sippy cup! Precious! Adorable, this child!

She loves to talk on the phone! She will put her play phones up to her ear, and pick up the regular phone and ask us to call someone! It is hilarious! Also, anytime she hears a phone ring, she says, "Hi-yo?" for "hello!" Love it!
I've written before about how she LOVES for her daddy to come home. Anytime that garage door opens, it's Daddy (whether it really is or not, she thinks it is!). She has recently started yelling for him over our bannister upstairs. She LOVES it when he comes downstairs to our foyer and answers her. "Daddy" is quickly followed by, "What are you doing?" which has been being asked for weeks, but still cracks me up every single time I hear it.
She is amazingly friendly. She says "Hey!!!!" and waves to anyone and everyone she sees - even people in cars next to us!
In my car (and in Tommy's car, but he doesn't have the patience for it all the time like I do), Addie knows there's a CD in there with her music. I've written before about how she wants me to "tut" (touch) it (the CD button) as soon as I get in my seat in the car. Now, she specifically asks for certain songs: "Say, Say" (Say, Say Oh Playmate) and "Sea, Sea" (A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea). She has also started identifying certain songs just as the music starts at the beginning of the song: Row, Row, Row Your Boat, The Wheels on the Bus, and another one that I will have to edit post later and fill in! Precious! She isn't quite singing yet, but she is certainly talking about it and repeating words like crazy! I also sing her the sweetest little song that my Granny sang me, Church in the Wildwood, and just like I did at her age, she is already reapeating and loving the "come, come, come, come" line! Granny, I hope we are making you proud! I absolutely love sharing that with her!
She has also started a few other sentences. Sometimes they are few and far between, and a stretch to understand them, but I definitely think that's what she's saying. They are:
"I need a cup; I do it; What's That?" and my personal favorite, "I Yuv You!!!"
Another funny thing she says now is "move." (We are trying "move please!" - I think "move" is just rude!) She knows if she wants to get somewhere/something and someone is in her way, that's what you say!
She is loving more and more her playroom. The other day I was upstairs and Tommy was in the kitchen. When I came downstairs I noticed everything was quiet. As I went to ask Tommy where Addie was, I saw her in the playroom. My mom got her a rocking horse that is low to the ground, that rocks and bounces (It is tacky and big and bulky and plastic, and Addie loves it. My parents also gave her a beautiful cherry wooden one - like I said, she loves the plastic one!). She has just the other day learned to get on it by herself (and she gets off of it by diving head first into the floor - hilarious!). Well, that's what she was doing. All by herself in there, rocking on her horse. It was the cutest thing, but for some reason that I have pondered for the past few days, it made me sad. I don't know if it made me sad to see my girl playing by herself, as in with no one to play with her, or what exactly? I know she plays with friends all day, and Mommy and Daddy at night, so there is no lacking there at all. I also know how developmentally good for her it is to have some independent play, which is something that my teacher mind is telling me to encourage. I guess in reality, and why I was sad, was that I never want to see that baby alone or without friends or anything. I am happy that she is happy entertaining herself, and I do know that is so important, but for some reason, it gave me the "saddies," as my father would say!
This is a first for Tommy and me as parents, and possibly Addie Kate too. I was taking Addie's shoes off to get her ready for bed, and tons of sand dumped out onto the changing table! Ugh! Her little tootsies were covered. Straight into the bath she went!
Speaking of "tootsies," that is now how Addie refers to her feet! The first time I heard it, she was sitting in her booster seat, and stretched her little legs out under the tray. She touched them, looked up at me, and said, "Tootsies?" over and over again! If I tell her to go get Daddy's tootsies (like if Tommy is in the recliner with his feet propped up) she goes over and grabs them, then just laughs and laughs! Precious!
The other day, Tommy was in Charlotte playing in a golf tournament charity event, which meant he would be home late. This also meant that I had to take Addie Kate with me to a PTA meeting - whew, not so much fun. She just is NOT a "sit on your lap and be quiet" kind of girl (gee, where could she have gotten that from?). I asked a friend of mine that I teach with if by chance her older daughter could come and play with Addie for me. She said that she'd probably love to. Once we got there, Jaime's daughter, Kaylin, went upstairs with me to Jaime's classroom. I introduced Addie to Kaylin, and Addie immediately picked up on the name and apparently said it all night, "Kay-yin, Kay-yin!" Kaylin played with Addie for me for the 20 minutes or so PTA meeting and Addie loved it. (Sweet Kaylin even had to change a poopy diaper - yuck!) (This was also the first time Addie has been kept by anyone other than Mrs. Lu, grandparents, or my cousin, Margaret.) Two nights later we went to a Clemson baseball game with them, so Addie was able to see Kaylin again! Then, the other day Addie and I were in the front yard talking with our neighbors. Their granddaughter (who is the same age as Kaylin, but named Claire) was over. Addie immediately just started talking away, and for a while I couldn't figure out what she was saying. Then, I realized she was saying "Kay-yin!" Precious! Claire played with Addie - swung her on our swing and slid her down Addie's slide. So sweet!
I believe those are all of her accomplishments as of now! Below is a video of Addie talking to her Daddy from upstairs! Enjoy!

Wheel of Fortune

This was on television the other night as we were getting ready for dinner. Tommy and I noticed Addie Kate being quiet and looked in the living room on her. She was standing like this, totally mesmerized by what she saw on tv. I love this show and Jeopardy - maybe she'll win us some money one day on one of them!

I Do It!!!

This is one of Addie's new sentences, and man did she prove it to us the other day on the playground. Tommy came home from work and took Addie down to the playground in our neighborhood (which is all of a 2 minute walk - yay!). About 10 minutes later, I got a phone call. Tommy called to ask me if I had seen Addie climb up the playset and slide down all by herself yet? I had just taken her there the day before, but I didn't even give her the opportunity to do that. So of course, I go tearing down there, with camera in hand. Sure enough, my sweet baby girl could do just about everything, all by herself! And we are NOT talking toddler playground equipment here. We are talking about the big stuff, that is over my head!

As we were playing, the big sister of the little girl across the street from us, who is exactly 10 days older than Addie, came by. Addie was talking way more than her, and playing with the equipment way more than her. The older sister (who was, say, in 5th grade) was kind of upset, constantly asking me questions about how long Addie's been talking, etc. I just assured her that all children develop on their own time and said that the reason Addie's probably playing so well on the equipment is because of the older children she stays with every day. And that I do believe. And for one of very few times ever, I have been absolutely ecstatic about the fact that Addie is at a babysitter every day, playing with and learning with other children. She can interact well with others, knows how to share and apologize, and can do developmental things that absolutely amaze me! I know for a fact that it would not be a good thing for Addie for me to stay home with her all day. I'd rotten her to death, and I'd be too afraid to let her do things like play on her own on the equipment on the playground. (Again, I'd just taken her there the day before and the thought didn't even cross my mind. Tommy takes her and she does it!) Even being a teacher, I know I wouldn't spark the creativity and developmental milestones that can be put in place by other children. [Every time I start to feel guilty about not staying home with her each day, I just need to remind myself of this. And be thankful that I have the fabulous hours that I do and the great days off that I do - woohoo! (To all of my readers, please remember that this is my scrapbook for our family, as well as a way to keep our loved ones up to date on our happenings and adventures. I want my Addie-girl to know that we chose for her to stay with other children for a reason. I am by no means being an advocate for either side of the matter. This is the decision Tommy and I made. I could have very easily stayed home with her. However, I love being a teacher and love even more what all I can do with this as Addie gets older - be a principal, be an assistant superintendent, be a college professor - all things I have/am considering. I love the fact that I will be able to retire before I'm 50 and Tommy and I can have more just "us" time, also allowing me to visit her and do with her, as she is an adult, anything I choose, just as my mom is able to do with me. I also love the fact that I have my undergrad and 2 masters degrees and hope that I'm showing Addie how important education is. Again, these are the choices Tommy and I have made for our family after careful and lengthy consideration and prayer. I know each of you have done the same with your family and the choice you made was what was right for your family.)]

I'm just blown away by what she can do every single day. Tommy and I often find ourselves looking at each other and just smiling. I'm so excited and proud of my girl! (With tear in eye, nonetheless!)

This was also the first time she's ever worn her Crocs - cute aren't they? Please excuse her playclothes - she had done just that that day - played her little heart out, and they were nasty dirty!

And definitely please excuse me, I was in my "don't leave the house clothes" and didn't expect Tommy's phone call!

I could stare at these pictures of my happy girl for hours!

Look at that hair! She was going that fast!

Love how she has to get off of the slide - it is that tall!

This was when I first got there - she was up in the top part - precious!

Love this!

This is Addie Kate in the lap of a coworker of Tommy's. This guy is a veteran of the war in Iraq. He's so sweet with our Addie. Here they were at a friend of our's house, making his name on the fridge with magnets!

A Day at the Zoo

When the weather was absolutely gorgeous last weekend, Tommy and I wanted to take Addie Kate to the zoo. Let me preface this post with one of my first doctor's visits with Addie. My mom had come along because I still couldn't drive and Tommy had to go back to work. She was in the room with us and mentioned to the doctor that she was from Lexington, right outside of Columbia (because if you don't say that, people think you are talking about Lexington, KY!). The doctor immediately replied, "Oh, you have the good zoo!" My mom and I just looked at each other like, "whatever!" I mean, I know Riverbanks has won several awards, etc., but unless you have a child, there really isn't much of a reason to go there! So I asked the doctor if Greenville had a zoo, too? She said yes and that the great thing about it was that you could do it in about 30 minutes, which was great for young kids! She was right! Greenville Zoo is small, but since Tommy and I aren't really animal people, it's great for us!

Addie Kate is still a bit small for the zoo. She only really liked the elephants, giraffes, and chickens. The elephants and giraffes were big enough for her to see, and the chicken/farm exhibit was where she could just walk right up to it. The weather was just beautiful though, and it was so nice to be there, just the three of us!

Addie pointing out the chickens to her daddy!

Addie and Daddy looking at the monkeys.

Standing to see the giraffes. I took her hand and pointed out that there were two of them, so she continued to say, "1,2,1,2..." the whole time!

Checking out "1" and "2!" I love that they have these little perches for small kids to stand on!

My girl and me!

I think we were looking at the elephants, or big birds, or something?

This is a little mommy monkey, holding her baby!

Not Quite Yet...

Addie Kate got a hodge-podge of dress-up things for Christmas. We hadn't drug any of them out yet, until just the other day. She and I were playing in her playroom, waiting on Tommy to come home, and I decided to dress her up! She didn't mind the tutu, but hated the wings. She spent most of her time trying to grab them to get them off - which made her look like a puppy chasing her tail the way she was going in circles! It was absolutely hilarious!

Trying to get the wings off...

Her little head (which really isn't that little!) was too small for the crown!

She does LOVE jewelry already though! I love it!
